Probably the most realistic representation of steam locomotive by a major manufacturer. This loco is stunning - enhanced by the subtle, yet effective weathering.

The loco is powered by Hornby's superb 5-pole skew wound motor, with pick-up from both the main driving wheels and tender wheels. This provides super-smooth performance - particularly noticeable at low speeds.

Bodywork, tender and cab detail are breath-taking. Sprung buffers also add to the realism of this exceptional locomotive.

The Mixed Traffic Class 4-MT designed by R. A. Riddles was one of several BR Standard Class locomotives produced by British Railways after Nationalisation. Much of the locomotive was designed at the ex Southern Railways Brighton Works but several parts of the locomotive were simultaneously designed at Swindon, Doncaster and Derby. The 80 strong Class was first introduced onto the tracks in May 1951 with all of them being dispersed in the Midland, Western and Southern Regions.
